West Pointe Appartments
Located in Grande Prairie’s growing Westpointe neighbourhood, West Pointe Apartments is a six-storey multi-family development designed to address regional housing demand with speed, scale, and affordability. Delivered in partnership with APG Property Group, Planworks Architecture, and DesignWorks Engineering, the project brings 166 modern rental homes to one of Alberta’s fastest-growing cities.

Background
As Alberta’s northwest continues to grow, Grande Prairie has emerged as a critical hub for energy, agriculture, and regional services — and with it, a rising demand for modern rental housing. The West Pointe Apartments project responds directly to this need, delivering 166 units of multi-family housing in the Westpointe neighbourhood, one of the city’s most active and fastest-growing communities.
Led by APG Property Group and designed by Planworks Architecture, the six-storey development strikes a balance between affordability, efficiency, and performance. From day one, the team sought a structural solution that would minimize site risk, accelerate timelines, and deliver repeatable quality at scale. That’s where CFS and the ComFrame® system came in.
General Challenges
- Grande Prairie’s ongoing growth required housing solutions that could scale quickly and reliably.
- The development team needed a structural system that could deliver predictability — in both performance and cost.
- Creative structural solutions were needed to make the most of the Westpointe site without compromising constructability.

Smarter Framing from the Ground Up
To meet the demands of the project — and the region — the CFS team implemented a fully prefabricated steel framing solution using the ComFrame® system. By optimizing for speed, efficiency, and climate resilience, the structural approach helped unlock value on every level.
Prefabricated for Climate Resilience
The ComFrame® system was fabricated off-site to minimize exposure to Grande Prairie’s weather — reducing delays and improving site safety.
Coordinated for Performance
Early-stage collaboration between CFS, APG, and Planworks enabled value engineering and clear sequencing, aligning structure and schedule.
Reduced On-Site Labour Dependence
Panelized installation minimized skilled trade demand on site, a key advantage amid regional labour shortages.
Reliable Build Quality
Every panel was fabricated to exacting specs, eliminating field rework and ensuring quality from foundation to roofline.
Project Outcomes
The West Pointe Apartments project brought 166 new homes to market in a fast-growing Alberta community — proving that mid-rise, panelized construction is not only viable but advantageous in regional markets. With faster delivery enabled by off-site fabrication, reduced site labour demand, and a tightly coordinated design process, the project stands as a model for future development across Western Canada. It demonstrates that with the right framing system and the right partners, developers can unlock density, quality, and cost control — even outside major urban centres.
